Mr. Borchardt gives the background to understand WHY our e-coli made a green flourescent protein. Without the ability to make proteins, we humans would be severly dibiiltated in a matter of hours, and die in a matter of days, just like Claudius Caesar did many many years ago! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claudius). Don't eat wild mushrooms, and pick your mate carefully! (Claudius's wife purportly fed Caesar poisonous mushrooms on purpose, which blocked the enzymes needed for transcription)
