Police have released images of a suspected arsonist buying petrol before an off-licence was set alight. At about 3.15am on Saturday 28 January 2012, two offenders walked up to California Wines, on Oldham Road, Miles Platting. He poured petrol through the letter box in the metal shutters before setting fire to it. The victim saw the incident on his CCTV live stream from his home and immediately called the fire brigade and police. The fire brigade were able to extinguish the blaze and limit the damage to the front door and the shutters, preventing it from destroying the shop and the flat above. However, extensive smoke damage was also caused to the shop. It is now believed that one of the offenders may have bought the petrol from the nearest petrol station, Total Garage, on Oldham Road, at around 3.20pm the previous day, Friday 27 January 2012. CCTV from the garage shows a man wearing a black hooded top buying a green plastic petrol can before filling it with fuel and walking off towards Miles Platting. He is described as white, in his late teens/early 20s, between 5ft 9 and 6ft tall, with a medium build. He was wearing a black hooded zip up top with an 'Affliction' emblem on the front right breast. On the rear is the letters 'AFFLICTION' across the shoulders and a skull and crossbones emblem beneath. He was also wearing grey tracksuit bottoms, black trainers and black gloves. Detective Sergeant Alex Wild, of Bradford Park CID, said: "Clearly these arsonists intended to cause as much damage as possible and we are extremely fortunate not to be dealing with a more serious incident such as injury or death. "To deliberately set fire to the front of a shop, regardless of whether there was anyone in at the time is both reckless and wicked. "I am confident however that people in the community will be able to help me get to the bottom of this. We are confident that one of the arsonists bought petrol from the nearby garage on the previous day. "Take a good look at this man's image -- if you recognise him or if you know someone who came home smelling of petrol in the early hours of the 28th January, then please get in touch." Anyone with information is asked to call Bradford Park CID on 0161 856 3540 / 3543 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Feb 16, 2012 - its because he was in a hoody and wearing gloves, you know even in cold weather we (the public) are not allowed to keep warm. If we do its because we want to commit a crime, didn't you know that???? lol
