Tuesday February 14th Movie Screening: "Koran By Heart" LSK 200 , UBC ; 5:00 - 7:00 PM FREE Admission Can you imagine that a ten-year-old could memorize a six-hundred page document, and then recite it back to you, word-for-word? The Quran is memorized, from cover to cover, by Muslim children and adults all across the world. The HBO documentary "Koran By Heart" follows the lives of three exceptional ten-year-olds as they leave their native countries to travel to Cairo to participate in the world's oldest Koran recitation competition. Wednesday February 15th "Shariah Law: A Code Upon Humanity Featuring. Sheikh Abdurrahman Murad BUCH A203 , UBC ; 6:00 - 8:00 PM FREE Admission Shariah enforces justice: justice to God, to yourself, your family, your neighbor and so forth. But should it be feared? Or maybe could it be respected? Sheikh Abdurrahman Murad will outline the rich thousand-year history of Islamic jurisprudence; how a Muslim quietly grocery-shopping and a Muslim volunteering at a hospital could both be following Shariah; and what truth there is to what the media loves to tell you. Thursday February 16th "Empowered and Honored: A Discussion Panel About Women In Islam" Featuring Sheikh Islam Ali, Sheikh Abdurrahman Murad and Mufti Aasim Rashid BUCH A102 , UBC ; 6:00 - 8:00 PM FREE Admission The topic of women in Islam is one of the most controversial and critical issues of our time, especially in our society. The panel will consist of several speakers each covering and speaking about a misconception with regards to this critical topic from the lens of Justice. Join us to find the truth behind such misconceptions. Friday February 17th "The Divine Legislation & Testimony of the Witness" Featuring Dr. Syed Ibn Iqbal & Sheikh Islam Ali Wood 2, UBC ; 6:00-9:00pm Admission: $5 We'll be wrapping up Islam Awareness Week 2012 with a double-feature seminar, just as we usually do. "The Divine Legislation" by Sheikh Islam Ali In the Quran, we read that Allah is the Most Just of Judges. Our first lecture, delivered by Sheikh Islam Ali, will detail how Allah treats His creation, both in this world and in the Hereafter; and how this treatment is based on both His Justice and His Mercy. "Testimony of the Witness" by Dr Syed ibn Iqbal Islam is about justice. Even if justice dictates that you work against your best worldly interests. The Prophet Muhammad, (May God Exalt His Mention), taught his followers the importance of justice and this seminar will give the audience an idea of how his students, the leaders among his followers, dealt with their people and their responsibilities in light of these teachings.
