Mark was saved from the New York Animal Care & Control euthanasia list during the first week of February. He was transported from New York City to his new home with Alexandra, her fiance and children, and three other dogs, in lovely Gaithersburg, in northwestern Maryland. It was a long trip for him but he was a delight and took to the road trip immediately. We stopped for a hike to break up the trip at Brandywine State Forest. Mark was a model citizen off the leash, never straying more than 30 feet or so from me. In an open field we played a game of fetch. Mark looks so different from his picture when you see him in person; he's just a puppy! Despite being called "aggressive" by someone at the New York shelter, this couldn't have been further from the truth, and it was clear that all he wanted to do was jump and play. And despite being skin and bones, Mark was up for anything on this hike! Thank you to Brooke at Bruised Not Broken for posting his information, to Jacqui at Zani's Furry Friends for making the rescue possible, to Alex in Maryland for giving him the home of his dreams, and to Carol, a volunteer at NYAC&C, for caring so deeply for these animals. It is her descriptions and photos of the "faces from the inside" that move all those people who read the euthanasia list on a daily basis, and stir them to action.
