Iconography of the City In Croatian paintings in the first half of the 20th century. Studio designed and realized a multimedia exhibition by author Željko Marciuš who, with using the iconographic method, for the first time in Croatia interprets a motif of the city in croatian paintings, drawings, graphics, art photography posters and interdisciplinary -- european film, croatian literature and history. The main idea behind the design of the exhibition is highlighting six sections with enlarged details of the paintings. At the same time, the visitors find themselves ˝inside˝ the art works, feel the rhythm of city streets and the main themes of the exhibition: 1. Painter in the city -- City in the painting, 2. Streets and squares, 3. Interiors, 4. City --a social theme, 5. Fun and sport -- leisure and free time, 6. Building and architecture of the city. Iconography square The visitor is introduced to the exhibtion at a small square where one can rest, look through the catalogue, and learn about the historical happenings of a period in which artwork, film and literature were created in. The center of octogonal square presents an installation inspired by Seissel's work. It is composed of enlarged advertisements and signs from the exhibited paintings and photographs from Dabac, Horvat and Janeković. Film theatre Films that had an influence on the artistic expression of the artists of that period are shown in an eliptical shaped treatre. On the outside of the theatre there are 7 small screens on which different frames from the films of the related sections are shown. Signage Sign system is designed so it would, by its shape, look like old fabric chimneys, which are used as motif on paintings in one of the exhibition sections. It was made of used paper roles that were hand cut and painted black or white corresponding to visual identity and exhibition design. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Design: Studio Rašić Creative director: Ante Rašić Art directors & Designers: Ante Rašić, Marko Rašić, Vedrana Vrabec Fabrication: Studio Rašić Photo: Damir Fabijanić, Studio Rašić archive Client: Modern gallery (Željko Marciuš) Year: 2009 / 2010 Location (city, country): Modern gallery, Zagreb, Croatia Project Title: "Iconography of the City"
