Foreign Affairs Focus On: Space Exploration & "Dreaming Big" with Neil deGrasse Tyson Editor Gideon Rose interviews author Neil deGrasse Tyson about the purpose of and reasons for funding the U.S. space program. Dr. Tyson, an astrophysicist, author, and director of the American Museum of Natural History's Hayden Planetarium, explains how national aspirations for space exploration lead to concrete social and political benefits--economic growth, educational development, student engagement, innovation in other fields, and national security. Such accomplishments take time, so presidents and policymakers must make decisions affecting the space program with a much longer term in mind. "The space program is not just about going into space; it is the tentpole of America's revitalization of science." Read Dr. Tyson's article from the March/April issue and more on these topics at http://www.ForeignAffairs.com

Mar 11, 2012 - Newt was hustling for votes on the Space Coast. Had nothing to do with actual desire to get back into space.

Mar 13, 2012 - Much of what constitutes "high technology" today is a direct result of 1950's & 1960's aerospace research. From Micro-electronics, exotic materials, fuel cells, medical advances.. None of it would exist with the space program. Do we want to reenergize American industry? Do you want us to lead the world in technology again? We need another big goal, like landing man on Mars and bringing him back safely again.

Mar 13, 2012 - We need to go to Mars to find the Prothean Ruins and make Mass Effect reality.

Mar 21, 2012 - Lol, I have thought about that as well. Obviously there isn't anything on mars, and even if there where it would need to get excavated which would only be possible in the very far future, even if we managed to get to mars in a few years. One can only wonder though. I guess another reason to go to mars. :D

Apr 2, 2012 - the reason why we went to the moon was because of a power-house country that had the technology to beat u.s.a.... u.s.a. are in several wars but the coutries can't even built/make a rocket, thus, america doesn't innovate... if we were at war with china, the swiss(lol) we would innovate a.s.a.p.
