MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR RADIO CODE BEFORE UNPLUGGING NOR REMOVING THE RADIO UNIT! This tutorial covers removal or change of the Ford Radio 6000CD RDS Facia. The tutorial covers the radio unit in a Ford Puma but will apply to all Ford models fitted with the 6000 unit. Most Ford Pumas are fitted with a silver fronted radio unit which may prove costly in replacing even if buying second hand as there are not many of them about. However other Radio 6000 units you are able to interchange the facias so you could purchase say a darker fronted radio unit and just change over the facia's. The tools required are the torx screwdrivers which are numbers T6 and T7 also you will need your radio removal clips. Don't bother using bits of strong wire as these may scratch the front of your radio.. Torx tools can be acquired at a good DIY store and the radio removal clips easily obtained from Ebay. Be aware that when removing the front the buttons are held in place so they do not drop out.. Just take care when the facia is removed that you do not drop it when the circuit board is removed as the buttons may jump out of their seatings. If you are not confident about performing this work than do not touch your unit. Its very simple providing care and time is taking in performing the steps in this tutorial. Have fun and save yourself a few quid.... Don't forget folks make sure you leave a comment..

Feb 29, 2012 - Sorry for the slow reply. Well i would imagine yes that this can be done providing you have a fine tipped solder iron and the correct voltage LED's. Not sure where in the world you are, but if in the states Radio Shack might be able to advise on what correct Led's you would need providing you can show them the obes you aim to replace. If in the UK do you have a Maplin store they would also advise. Its not something i have done but not impossible. Keep me posted Thankyou.

Feb 29, 2012 - I am not sure about the display as i don't have a radio to hand to check this, but if back lit by LED's yes you could change them.

Apr 30, 2012 - Hi, Cheers for the reply. In the end I bought something called Xcarlink interface that plugs straight into the cd changer port and plays usb, memory card and any mp3 player. I works great and only cost 80 pounds. Great piece of kit and comes with the connector to any factory radio you specify. Just plug it in and organize your music as if they are cd´s and the radio thinks it has a multi cd changer connected.
