Everybody talk about headlines . Bin laden etc.. But isn't there also a need to talk about Crusades, Reconquista, Imperialism, Algerian war, Sabra and Shatila, Srebrenica, Abou Ghraib, Guantalemo...? Unfortunately but obviously, violence has been the dark side of "Civilization." Every nation, every state, every ideology have their own responsabilities in this traumatic outcome. Please think a bit about Terror in the name of liberty, committed in the French revolution; the most brutal massacres and genocides committed by totalitarian ideologies like faschism and communism, massacres and etnic cleansing committed by western states during imperialism etc... Plantations, ethnic cleansing, total war, Nuclear bombs, most of moden torture techniques were invented by Western civilization. Yes, some Muslims, partially under the subversive influence of traumatic Western experience in the Muslim world for at least 200 years, very badly misinterpret their religious sources and commit terrible crimes . But, not to forget, in the past of the US, slavery was also defended for some constitutional reasons... Violence, is a illegitimate children of modernity. We should go beyond headlines and try to understand each other more humanly, diachronically and hermeneutically. As the famous Turkish poet Yunus Emre, says, " We shall love the created for the sake of the Creator." We should remain human "at all costs"
