AHH SHOOT I forgot to Mention if the Volt of the capacitor is around 200V if the capacitor is not discharged first it could KILL YOU!! That would be a capacitor in like a Refrigerator or some large appliance. BE CAREFUL AND DON'T DIE!!

Feb 12, 2012 - Good job! Very nice for your first time soldering. One thing I would recommend is using lead/tin solder. It melts at a much lower temperature than the ROHS compliant stuff you got. Overheating the traces can cause them to lift off the board, making for a more difficult repair than simply de-soldering and re-soldering. Definately easier to use for a beginner, but you obviously had no problem with the higher melt temperature.

Feb 12, 2012 - I would also add that there are de-soldering braids that wick the molten solder away from the board. I personally prefer that method. Neither way is better, but if you are new to this, give both a try on a junk circuit board and see which you prefer.

Apr 23, 2012 - Hey man cool video, just one question how did you get those white glops off of the capacitors already on the board? Just heat em up with the soldering iron?
