Slava, Edinorodnil sine (Glory, the only begotten Son) - by Nikolai Golovanov http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikolai_Golovanov Sung by the Chorovaya Akademia - under the direction of Alexander Sedov. From the CD booklet: "The integral part that choral music plays in Russian Orthodox worship has caused historic social and political changes. When the complex harmonies of the Western sacred tradition were introduced into Orthodox liturgical music in the 18th century, many devout Russians refused to accept the new music. Feeling that true piety lay in the simple chants of their forefathers, the 'old believers' broke away, establishing their own sects. But the sheer power and beauty of these glorious compositions soon became a wealth of tradition in its own right, and few could say that the complex and inspiring music was not quintessentially Russian." Feb 20, 2012 - That is an interesting observation. Part might well be familiar with this modern tradition of Russian church music!
