Bike to Bobber (Video 4) Chopping, Fabricating, and Welding

In this video my brother, and I, cut off the seat lock, fabricated and welded the mounts for the rear fender, and began working on the rear struts. This is my first bike and first bobber/chopper project, I am far from a pro, but the best way to learn is to get elbow deep in it. A series of videos showing how I bob/chop my 1993 Kawasaki Vulcan EN500.

Feb 9, 2012 - if you wanna go really far back, i learned from legos and erector sets, lol... I pretty much learned everything between google/youtube and aircraft mechanic school, not to mention the times we winged it and didn't know what the hell we were doing. Its just a testament to the fact that the internet is wonderful.

Mar 23, 2012 - check mine out, i have to redue the video, but im actually doing the wiring now, its painted, and comming togethor. its myfirst build too but only way is to do it to learn. i hit a few bumps on the road building it and im jammed up now, if anyone knows please, i ran the same harness, prior owner had the ignition hardwired i guess. i have 4 wires that are cut off and have to figgure out which wire goes to what. i found the wire that turns the starter which is white but it just spins, no crank

Mar 23, 2012 - looks sweet! if ur talking about the starter relay, theres a black wire that goes to the starter motor, a black/yellow wire to ground, and orange wire to the junction box, and then theres a white one that goes to the regulator and ignition switch. if ur talking about the ignition switch, theres a brown wire that goes to the regulator and junction box, a gray wire to the ignitor, a red wire to the brake/running tail light, and blue wire that goes to the speedo get a service manual it's worth it

Mar 23, 2012 - Thanks, yeah I hate wires. Im gonna try this again. I got the.starter to spin. Shouldnt the.starter gear engage and crank the motor even with no gas at all? I hear it spinning but nothin else. I hope I didnt damage any electicle when I was welding, I realized it and completely removed the harness when I welded. Also in the rear wheal on the right side there is a fat washer or spacer that goes thru the axle. When I had the hardtail welded, I cant slide that spacer.

jettastreetracer Wypowiedź:

Mar 23, 2012 - U think I can either find a lathe and make it thinner so it can fit the gap between the wheel and the axle bracket or find a thinner spacer. I tried a prybar to squeeze it in but its.hard

bedsheetmonkey Wypowiedź:

Mar 23, 2012 - I've never opened up the starter, but maybe the chain is broken (i'm not even sure if it runs off a chain, might be gears)... as for the spacer, i'd get some sand paper and put it down on something as flat as possible, then take the spacer and rub it in a figure-8 pattern until you grind away enough for it to fit.

bedsheetmonkey Wypowiedź:

Mar 24, 2012 - I read a little bit from the manual and it says if the starter rotates but the engine doesn't turn over it could be the following: starter motor clutch defective, damaged idler or starter gears... it also says the engine might be seized from damage, wear, or lack of lubrication... i dunno if it could be one of these, it might be something wrong with wiring but if you're hearing the starter spin and the engine won't, it sounds like the electrical is ok. make sure the battery is charged.

Mar 24, 2012 - I hope its not the seized motor! It ran fine before I took it apart. I didnt drain the oil, maybe I have the ignition wire and coils hooked up wrong. There is a green and black eletrocle connector and not sure.whoch goes.to.whoch wire. U have pictures of your coils with the wires hooked up? How can I test for spark? with a car I can test.with a flathead. Do u have.an email? I can send pics and maybe u can send me pics of ur wiring. If the motor is seized, I shouldnt be able to move the belt rig?

Mar 24, 2012 - the only green and black wire i see in the schematics is from the junction box to the igniter (the little box thats behind the battery, attached to the plastic). send me a message from my channel with ur email. the manual i'm using is the "Haynes Kawasaki 454LTD/LTD 450, Vulcan 500 and Ninja 250 '85-'07"
