READ F.A.Q. PLEASE. TYSM! Frequently Asked Questions: 1. Tools used? Base - craft wood, hot glue, wooden dowels (optional) or dremmel carving tool, texture pattern from Ace of Cakes Fondant set & Leaf Green Sculpey III clay. Tree stump - Craftsmart brown clay, needle tool & ball tool. Totoro - Metallic Silver clay Sculpey III, Glitter Red clay Fimo, Leaf Green clay, white & black clay, red clay and two small cookie cutters. Umbrella - small wooden stick, Red Glitter clay, Blue Glitter clay Sculpey III, two headpins to secure his ears, & small stryfoam ball (cut in half). All were purchased at Michael's or Joann Fabrics (dremmel tool - Wal-Mart). Mushroom beads were purchased from Hobby Lobby. Sculpey Bake Bond and hot glue gun - Michael's. Various assortment of glaze. Sculpey needle tool and small ball tool. 2. Why didn't you add whiskers and Totoro's markings on his chest? I chose not to, but you can. 3. The umbrella handle doesn't fit in Totoro's hand?! I know, that was one of the flubs. 4. Can you bake the wooden base and umbrella handle? You sure can, but just keep an eye on it when you are baking. I baked everything together for 15 minutes at 250F degrees in my toaster oven. If I bake something and it doesn't work, I won't show it in the tutorial, so in this case, the base and handle were fine during and after the baking process. 5. What kind of glaze did you use? Triple thick for the umbrella and flowers. Matte glaze for the tree stump and Americraft gloss glaze for everything else. 6. Did you come up with this idea? Yes, I did and it has been something I have been wanting to do for awhile, but this takes a very long time to make. 7. What kind of video camera do you use? Samsung HD videocam QIO. Best Buy. 8. What camera do you use to take pictures of your creations? Nikon DSLR D90 with a macro and portrait lens. 9. Are your trades open? No, sorry. 10. Why didn't you paint the umbrella handle and the base under the clay? L-A-Z-Y, I aint got no alibi. I'm LAZY! So-so LAZY!! (you should be dancing to this) ;) 11. What if I cannot find a wood base? Use your imagination! A stryfroam block will work if you weigh it down and evenly distribute that weight. Think paper mache or anything laying around the house you can use too. You are never limited to just one material. 12. Your Totoro doesn't look like Totoro. I know, this is the first time I made him and I realized after that his eyes are not made / spaced correctly. You don't have to make Totoro though, you can make any character you want!

Feb 11, 2012 - If you hot glue the wooden things , when you bake it won't the glue melt

Feb 11, 2012 - It would if you were using regular glue (which is ok as long as it's not highly flammable - I suggest Weld Bond), but in this tutorial, I used Sculpey Bake and Bond which was made specifically for baking and clay.

Feb 11, 2012 - I have an idea:) if it's an iPhone or iPod, you can carve a little hole at the bottom that's big enough for the charger to fit, so you can rest your phone and charge it;)

Feb 26, 2012 - isnt wood flamible?

0903photography Wypowiedź:

Feb 26, 2012 - Good question and technically, yes it is. BUT, in this case, there was no "accelerant" (example; gas / fuel, highly flammable liquid, etc.) in contact with the wood and the temp. at which I baked it was too low. Now, if I had a liquid that was a chemical accelerant to the wood, it would have caught fire. I know this because I am a Forensics Major in school. I would never post a tutorial if it were dangerous to you
