20120205 - Sunday Winterlude Skate -6C 25km Cloudy and Sunny Ottawa Rideau Canal Skateway -- Sunday February 5, 2012 Second official skating day of Ottawa's Winterlude Festival. 20,000 plus skaters take to Rideau Canal Skateway on Saturday. A perfect cloudy / sunny day for a 25km afternoon ice skate at -6C. Ottawa Rideau Canal Skateway is completely open for 7.8km. Rideau Centre to Dows Lake and Carleton University. Bank Street Bridge to Bronson Street Bridge is now the worst section on the Skateway. Bronson Street Bridge to Dows Lake is a very smooth skate. Bronson Street Bridge to Carleton University is a very smooth skate. 7.8km x 2 + 4.4km x 2 + .6km = 25km The temperature has dropped to -10C overnight making for idea conditions for the Ottawa Rideau Canal Ice Team to continue flooding the ice from the Rideau Center to Bronson Street Bridge, from the Bronson Street Bridge to Dows Lake, and Bronson Street Bridge to Carleton University. The ice conditions from Bronson Street Bridge to Dows Lake and Bronson Street Bridge to Carleton University are now the best on the Ottawa Rideau Canal Skateway on Sunday! The Ottawa Rideau Canal Skateway from the Rideau Centre to Bronson Street Bridge is in good to fair condition.
