Showing some of the structures still standing of the notorious penal settlement in the Kingston area of Norfolk Island. Very harsh treatment was given to multiple offenders; all shackled and many hung in front of the jail front arch way. The two boats called lighters were used to ferry cargo from ship to shore on only calm days. Strapping two together with logs a fire engine was brought to shore. A ship sitting off shore has been waiting for two weeks to unload petrol; the water is too rough to anchor nearby to discharge along a pipe line. This island is a bit of paradise today for those who like beautiful scenery, peaceful friendly people, good food, interesting tours and outdoor activities. Adventures of the past with maybe a few ghosts thrown in. Also soon nearby in Burnt Pine town one of the unique wonders of the world and first in the southern hemisphere a true replication of Tutankhamun's tomb, which can be fully explored inside for the first time without restriction.
