EINUIEA is a special, unique and original quartet, which was created in 2003 by young, but nevertheless talented and experienced Romanian musicians. The strange name of the ensemble is a playful grouping of the letters from June 15, the foundation date for the group. The members of the group are: Călin Torsan (recorders, traditional flutes, mandolin, clarinet and trumpet), George Turliu (voice, baglamas, kazoo, saz, and psalterium), Silviu Fologea (electro-acoustic guitar, psalterium) and Juan Carlos Negretti (darbuka, bongos, and percussions). The ensemble's repertoire consists of transcriptions and original compositions inspired by traditional & archaic music from Romania and the Balkans. One can identify multiple influences, echoes and sources in the specific sound of the ensemble. The musicians combine with virtuosity and imagination the Byzantine ambiance, and the folkloric ethos from Central and Eastern Europe, sometimes in the form of free historical improvisation. The ensemble has had numerous concerts in Romania and abroad (Japan, Turkey, Austria, Israel, Belgium) at special events organized by the Ministry of Culture, the Bucharest Town Hall, the Romanian Cultural Institute or the Romanian Peasant Museum. Besides concert stages and jazz clubs, the ensemble performs in unconventional locations such as museums, art galleries, antique & book shops, book fests, children shelters, etc. The ensemble is regularly invited to perform at musical events: The Tuesday Night Season at the "George Enescu" Philharmonic in Bucharest, the Medieval Art Festival in Sighişoara, SOS -- the Castle and the Musical Autumn in Hunedoara, the Braşov Medieval Fests, The Museum Nights and Street Delivery in Bucharest, the Early Music Festival in Miercurea Ciuc, etc.) The ensemble has composed and performed stage music in theatrical productions for different companies in Romania (Nottara Theatre, Small Company, Café Deko, Lost Society, etc.), touring Romania, Germany, Spain, and Bulgaria. The ensemble has also participated in two important international cultural events: MultiKulti radio project (Radio Delta RFI) and "Cultural Heritage -- a Bridge towards a Shared Future" (UNESCO Centre in Venice & Mioritics Association). The ensemble experiments performing live original music combined with poetry and literature for silent movies, usually in outdoor nocturnal screenings such as Nosferatu and Faust by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, The Fall of the House of Usher by Jean Epstein, Waxworks by Paul Leni, and The Shadow of Caligari -- a collection of American avant-garde short films. For these productions the ensemble constantly collaborates with the actress Crenguţa Hariton (Nottara Theatre). The ensemble has released four CDs: „Music in the Street" (2003), „Christmas Carols" (2004), „Byzantine Tales" (2005), and „Noa" (2008). Contact: einuiea@gmail.com + 40 722 460 737
